The Mission of the Taffety Punk Theatre is to establish
a dynamic ensemble of actors, dancers and musicians
who ignite a public passion for theatre by making the classical and the contemporary
exciting, meaningful, and affordable.

We envision a theatre with a living function in a community:
to examine, to teach, to share, to provide
a laboratory for the human experience.

Smarter. Cheaper. Better.

We want to

Establish a company of performers
Produce daring and compelling work
Keep ticket prices low
Find a space to call home
Reach out to people other theatres are ignoring
…and be smart about it.

Why an ensemble?
Imagine if the Beatles had changed members on every record. That would have been terrible. Stable ensembles achieve the greatest work: by working together all the time, by getting to know each other, and by growing together. So we want to build one. Dance companies, sports teams, and rock bands still embrace this kind of long-term collaboration. It’s what makes them successful. We think this is the foundation on which to build exciting and groundbreaking theatre.

Can we make theatre affordable?
We have to. The cost of producing theatre has always been prohibitive; in spite of this, we are determined to make theatre affordable for everyone. Theatre is a gift to the community. It should not be a luxury.

Is there a lack of public passion for theatre?
Yes. Theatre is awesome… but only 5% of the American public goes to see it. Why? We don’t know but we have our suspicions. We want to identify and eliminate whatever keeps people from experiencing this vital art form. We already know one problem.

Plea for filthy lucre
Our aims are ambitious. Developing the environment we are describing, and the means to sustain it, will require a lot of money. Seriously. Please consider what we’re trying to do, and if you’re into it, we would be very grateful for any support you can offer.
